Vision Statement

We at Women's Behavioral HealthCARE aspire to be a local and international clinical, intellectual and strategic leader in Women's Behavioral Health, gender based medicine and advocacy for women, their families, and communities.

Mission Statement

Women's Behavioral HealthCARE is committed to the advancement of gender-based Clinical Care, Advocacy, Research, and Education.

We will accomplish our mission by:

  • Providing premier preventive, curative, and promotive services to women of childbearing age, their families, the public, and general medical community, whose holistic concerns often fall on the boundary between psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatrics.
  • Developing novel assessment and diagnostic strategies, psychotherapies, pharmacologic interventions, and computer-based tools.
  • Translating our science into practice and policy from the local to the global audience through publications, training, service development and provision of leadership in women's behavioral health.
  • Conducting our nationally-funded research in an ethical and fiscally responsible manner.
  • Recruiting, supporting and retaining a highly skilled, diverse, multi-disciplinary professional staff that remains at the cutting edge of gender-based research through continued education, training and encouragement of creativity.

Who We Serve

Women's Behavioral HealthCARE of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic provides behavioral health services to women. We study and treat:

  • Major Depressive Disorder
  • Depression during or after pregnancy
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Anxiety Disorder

Initial evaluation appointments last about three hours and include:

  • Structured clinical interview for DSM-IV diagnosis
  • Biopsychosocial assessment
  • Consultation with perinatal psychiatrist
  • Treatment recommendations with risk-benefit analysis

Referrals originate from various sources:

  • Pregnant and Postpartum Women
  • Physicians
  • Nurses or Nurse Midwives
  • Lactation Consultants
  • Other health professionals
  • Clergy
  • Former patients
  • Radio/TV promotions
