Description:

This is a pilot study to extend knowledge of the relationship between menstrual and mood cycles in women with bipolar disorder. Women who are in either acute depression or stable mood will be compared with healthy controls. Mood and menstrual related symptoms will be tracked systematically over 3-months with clinician-rated and self report mood instruments. The data from this study will provide preliminary evidence that the shifts of ovarian hormones over the menstrual cycle cause an impact on bipolar symptoms.
