Volunteer Services
Volunteers and student interns can:
-
Gain exposure to career opportunities and education in the
field of mental health care, research, elementary education.

Help to enhance services provided by staff in the treatment,
care and research regarding the mentally ill.

Student interns may receive credit for placement through
their college or university.

Promote community understanding and education.
Opportunities:
-
Assist staff in a variety of group and individual activities
with children who have behavior problems or multiple handicaps.
-
Assist Developmental Specialists in classrooms on inpatient
units for young children and adolescents.
-
Assist staff, interact with patients and participate in
group activities on the Mood Disorders inpatient units.
-
Provide staff support and interact with geriatric patients
who are being treated for depression and dementia.
-
Research projects - assist principal investigator and
various levels of staff.

Tutor adult outpatient clients through WPIC's Project
Literacy Program.

Provide clerical support for a variety of programs.
-
Volunteer to provide group entertainment, i.e., clowns,
musical presentations for patients (especially during the holidays).

Interview required.
Age prerequisite of 18 years or older.
Time commitment of approximately 3 - 4 hours a week over at
least a three month period of time.
Orientation to patient care issues provided, includes
confidentiality and discussion of volunteer role.
Training provided in fire safety standards and universal
precautions.
