Insomnia Research Study

This research study will involve 33 insomnia patients between the ages of 18-65.

If you are eligible to participate in this study based on a clinical interview, you will be scheduled for a general medical examination including a physical examination and laboratory work consisting of an EKG, urine drug screen, a blood count, electrolytes, liver function tests and thyroid function tests.  The physical will take approximately one hour to complete.

Following the physical, you will be scheduled to sleep overnight at the Clinical Neuroscience Research Center , our sleep lab, at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic for 9 nights.  This study will examine measures of sleep in a sleep laboratory in insomnia persons first for one night to screen for the presence of sleep apnea, a sleep problem in which individuals have some trouble breathing during sleep, then during 4 different occasions, each lasting for 2 nights. In between each of the 4 occasions, you will be allowed to sleep at home for five nights.

If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep at night, or if you feel tired in the morning, you may be eligible to participate in our research study.  Participants will be compensated upon completion of the study.  To learn more about this research study call the Project Coordinator at 412-246-6448 or  contact us via the web.
