NIMH Purpose: The goal
of this study is to identify genes underlying liability to
schizophrenia. This
research will be conducted in the African American
population, who have been underserved in mental health
research. This study will investigate schizophrenia in both nuclear
families and multigenerational multiplex families (families
with more than one affected person). We hope that identification of predisposing genes for
schizophrenia will facilitate research into
pathophysiological mechanisms which may in the future lead to new
treatments for the illness.
