Systematic Evaluation of Antiviral Medication in Schizophrenia (SEAMS)
To qualify you must meet the following criteria...
| have schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder | |
| between the ages of 18 and 50 years | |
| not pregnant | |
| do not have any serious medical conditions | |
| screening to confirm eligibility |
Eligible participants will be asked to complete the following...
| complete a clinical interview | |
| complete neuropsychological tests | |
| provide a sample of blood | |
| brain imaging | |
| take either antiviral medication or placebo for 16 weeks |

Study Involving Relatives of Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Patients
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria...
| between the ages of 10 and 50 years | |
| no history of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder | |
| no current problems with drugs or alcohol | |
| have a first-degree (parents, siblings) relative with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder | |
| certain medical conditions and medications may disqualify one from participation |

Investigating the Risk Factors for Bipolar Disorder
You may qualify if...
| you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder | |
| you have a child between the ages of 10 and 20 years | |
| you are willing to have your child undergo an MRI scan and some computer tests |

Healthy Subjects for Comparison Studies
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria...
| between the ages of 10 and 50 years | |
| no prior history of psychiatric illness or problems with drugs or alcohol | |
| no first degree relatives (parents, siblings) with a history of psychotic or bipolar illness and no second degree relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, first cousins) with a psychotic disorder | |
| no current emotional or nervous problems |
