Cinnamon
S. Bloss, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Fellow in
statistical genetics and the genetics of complex traits and diseases at The
Scripps Research Institute. She is part of the Scripps Genomic Medicine
Initiative. In addition to her involvement in the Price Foundation
Eating Disorders Candidate Gene Project, she is currently involved in projects
investigating the genetic basis of autism spectrum disorders, as well as
complex phenotypes associated with the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene. Her
research interests are varied, but broadly center on the integration of
high-dimensional genetic, neuroimaging, neurocognitive, and demographic
information in order to make inferences about the genetic basis of disease
from a developmental/lifespan perspective. She was the recipient of the
American Psychological Association Student Research Grant Award (Section IV of
Division 12, Clinical Psychology of Women) for her Master’s thesis, which
was an investigation of MRI neuroanatomy in young girls with autism. Dr.
Bloss received her B.A. in Psychology from
Smith
College
and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology from
the Joint Doctoral Program at the
University
of
California
,
San Diego
and
San Diego
State
University
. She completed her predoctoral internship, again with specialty
training in clinical neuropsychology, at the
University
of
Florida
. Clinically, she has worked with both adults and children with a wide
range of psychiatric, developmental, and neurological conditions, including
eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, autism spectrum
disorders, Tourette’s disorder, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, and
neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Bloss also has an interest in teaching
psychology and was the recipient of the Outstanding Doctoral Student Teaching
Award for the Department of Psychology at
San Diego
State
University
in 2005.
