Jennifer Dickman received her M.A. in Medical Anthropology from Case Western Reserve University in 2000. She is a Project Coordinator in the Law and Psychiatry Program at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
Jennifer is working with Dr. Elizabeth Cauffman on projects centering on the mental health of youth in the juvenile justice system. She is currently managing the "Assessing Juvenile Psychopathy: Developmental and Legal Implications" study. This project has been on going since September 2001 and has a team of 15 part and full time employees who instruct the project's direction, interview offenders, enter and manage data, organize data collection, and carry out office management duties. The staff of the Psychopathy Study has interviewed more than 200 juvenile and adult offenders in secure facilities and communities across the State of Pennsylvania. Their work seeks to explore the construct of psychopathy among juveniles (14-17 years of age) using the Psychopathy Checklist - Youth Version.
Jennifer also coordinates the NIMH-funded study, "Improving Services for Mentally Ill Juvenile Offenders," in which study participants from an area detention center are administered both a diagnostic and a services interview in order to evaluate the effectiveness of a mental health screening tool. In addition, Jennifer also manages Dr. Cauffman's study focusing on the re-analyses of a historical female offender dataset and is involved in the statewide implementation and data analyses of the Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument, Version 2 (the MAYSI~2).
Jennifer's primary area of interest is in child and adolescent health, particularly focusing on those children or adolescents whose health conditions (mental, emotional, or physical) or life circumstances have marginalized them from family, friends, or peers. She is an experienced interviewer of children and adolescents, has managed and analyzed project data, and has participated in disseminating that data to the public.
