How to Pay for Healthcare - Insurance Alternatives

Medical Assistance
(Medicaid) helps to defray the rising cost of health care services for eligible low-income individuals that have
limited income and high medical expenses.

CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) 
CHIP provides health coverage to uninsured children whose families earn too much to qualify for Medicaid
but not enough to afford private health insurance. 

MATP
Medical Assistance Transportation Program

This health insurance was created to help cover individuals whose income exceeds the limits for Medical
Assistance, but do not earn enough to pay for private coverage. 
 

COBRA
Keeping health insurance through an employer after your job has ended. 

Paying for Prescription Medication
Information about the CHADD Medical Benefit Program and prescriptions covered under Medical Assistance.

ADHD Specialty Program at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC)
The ADHD Specialty Program provides assessment and treatment across the lifespan (childhood through adults).

Community Health Centers
Community Health Centers provide lower-cost health care with a sliding-scale fee based on patients’ ability to pay. 
      

Mental Health Services
Provides listings and services of mental health providers and drop-in centers, drug and alcohol providers and
advocacy groups, and gambling support groups.

Mental Health Services for Children
A parental guide to mental health services for children from the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.

Dental and Primary Health Care Centers
Provides listings of dental and primary health care centers.       

Vision and Hearing
Provides listings of vision and hearing care centers.       

Family Health: Women’s health, nutritional, and immunization programs
Provides information about Medicaid coverage for pregnant women, WIC, and immunizations for children.
