CARE-NET CONTINUES...
Dear Colleagues,
As many of you know Dr.
John Campo, CARE-NET Director, will be leaving our CARE-NET family
effective February 1, 2006, to pursue a new career opportunity in
Ohio. We wish him well in his new venture and thank him for his
dedication to the CARE-NET mission over the past four years.
John has made very
important and lasting contributions to this program so that even
with his departure I want to assure you that CARE-NET will
continue. Over the past few months the steering committee for
CARE-NET (Dr. Campo, Amanda Lucas, Dr. Kolko, Dr. Wolfson, and I)
have been actively discussing the upcoming transition, implications
for CARE-NET, and I believe we have a solid plan for the future of
CARE-NET. Our goal is to make this network sustainable, expanding
both research and clinical activities.
Most immediately, I
would like to address the upcoming staff changes as related to
CARE-NET coordination and psychiatric consultation. As you know,
Ms. Lucas will be joining Dr. Campo in Ohio as of March 2006. We
have hired Carrie Christopher Fascetti, LSW, as our new program
manager for CARE-NET. She will assume this role effective 2/20/06.
You will be able to contact her by phone at 412-246-5283 or email at
christopherc@upmc.edu. Dr. Evelyn Reis will assume the role of
CARE-NET director effective 2/1/06. This role will focus on the
goal of making CARE-NET sustainable going forward with an increased
emphasis on training and education of pediatric practitioners. Dr.
Abigail Schlesinger will provide the necessary psychiatric
consultation required for your respective primary care sites, and
encourage you to send these requests through Ms. Fascetti so we can
quickly address your patient-related questions.
There is much excitement
about the future of CARE-NET and our intent is to plan a large group
meeting in the near future to discuss more specifics as to CARE-NET’s
future. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further
questions or concerns about the upcoming transitions. Thanks for
remaining dedicated to our research mission.
Best,
David

Out of
the Darkness Community Walk
Every 18
minutes in the U.S., someone dies by suicide. This fall thousands
of men and women will walk in over 40 communities across the United
States, each contributing their voices to break the slience
surrounding suicide.
By
walking in the 2005 Out of the Darkness Community Walks to benefit
the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), you will be
walking with thousands of people nationwide to raise money for
AFSP's vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and
save lives, increase national awareness about depression and
suicide, and assist survivors of suicide loss.
Many
participants walk in memory of a loved one lost to suicide. You can
tell their story and even put your loved one's photo on your
personal web page. Each walk site has its own unique remembrance
activity in which you can participate.
Join the
Pittsburgh Chapter of AFSP for this 3-5 mile walk that begins at
8:30am on Sunday October 9, 2005 at North Park - Harmar Grove
in Allison Park.
