Program Description:

This 2 hour program by the faculty of the WPIC Crisis Training Institute discusses Trauma Informed Care in the context of crisis prevention, crisis communication as means of effective crisis resolution and reduction of unintended trauma to the individual, and the importance of Staff Resiliency and self-care especially when working with individuals reporting an extensive history of trauma.

Educational Objectives:

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:
1. Understand the impact of emotional trauma in the context of crisis situations
2. Identify strategies and techniques for effective crisis communication
3. Discuss the importance staff resiliency and self-care
 

Target Audience:

Clinical staff looking to expand their knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and crisis communication.

PSYCHOLOGISTS
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian maintains responsibility or the program. This program is being offered for 2.0 continuing education credits.

CERTIFIED ADDICTIONS COUNSELORS (CAC)
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian/Office of Education and Regional Programming is certified by the Pennsylvania Chemical Abuse Certification Board (PCACB) to provide Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) continuing education credits for those participants attending the entire program. 2.0 PCACB hours have been approved for participation in this program.

COUNSELORS
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEPTM) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program

SOCIAL WORKERS
This program is offered for 2.0 hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education-accredited school and, therefore, a PA pre-approved provider of social continuing education. PENNSYLVANIA EDUCATORS
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian is recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to offer continuing education credits under the Act 48 guidelines. Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian adheres to the Act 48 Continuing Education Guidelines. Pennsylvania Educators will receive 2.0 hours of Act 48 credit for attending this complete program.

MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
Nurses and other health care professionals are awarded 0.2 Continuing Education Units (CEU's) which are equivalent to 2.0 hours of instruction.
