Program Description:

The New Dilemmas in Ethics training has been developed to help counselors and supervisors gain skills to appropriately manage ethical dilemmas, which have been created as a result of technology and social media. This training will provide an overview of the use of technology and the ethical dilemmas associated with the use of technology. Topics will include the use of social media and social networking, dilemmas surrounding emailing clients, conducting internet searches, and online consultations.

 

Educational Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program participants should be able to:
Develop a framework and understanding related to ethical implications with regard to the use of technology in their work.
Explore how professional ethical codes may be impacted though the use of technology.
Summarize and demonstrate an understanding of legal issues and current legislation which both supports and negates technology as it relates to the field.
 


 

Target Audience:

This introductory program is directed toward clinicians, criminal justice system professionals, and other professionals from both the mental health and intellectual disabilities treatment fields who work with consumers with dual disorders

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, Office of Education and Regional Programming is certified by the Pennsylvania Chemical Abuse Certification Board (PCACB) to provide Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) continuing education credits for those participants attending the entire program. 

 

    COUNSELORS:  NCC

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5059.  Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.  Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is solely responsible for all aspects of this program. This program is being offered for 3.0 continuing education hours.

PSYCHOLOGISTS

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.  Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic maintains responsibility for these programs and their contents. These programs are being offered for 3.0 continuing education credits.

 

SOCIAL WORKERS:  LSW/LCSW/LPC/LMFT

The indicated number of clock hours of continuing education (3.0) is provided through Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC's Office of Educational Resources and Planning, a PA-approved provider of social work continuing education in accordance with all the applicable educational and professional standards of the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist. These clock hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW, LPC, and LMFT renewal.

 

MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS: CEU

Nurses and other health care professionals are awarded .60 Continuing Education Units (CEU). One CEU is equal to 10 contact hours. Nurses: For attendance at this program you will receive a Certificate of Attendance confirming the indicated hours of continuing education. These hours may be considered eligible in completing the 30 hours of continuing education required for bi-annual nursing re-licensure in Pennsylvania.
