About OERP/WPIC
The Office of Education and Regional Programming
(OERP) was established by Dr. Thomas Detre in 1974 when he assumed the role of
Director of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) and Chairman of the
Department of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The
purpose of the OERP has been to link the research, clinical and educational
resources of WPIC, as the only Academic Center of Psychiatry in Western
Pennsylvania, to the State Mental Hospitals and community mental health programs
throughout Western Pennsylvania in order to better serve the mental health needs
of children, youth, adults and the aged in this geographic area of 23 counties.
Through the years, the OERP has
evolved with WPIC and is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art training and technical
assistance to mental health service providers throughout western Pennsylvania
and beyond.
Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of Staff and Faculty who are leaders in
clinical care and research, the OERP strives to assist
providers in achieving and maintaining the highest level of quality standards in
the services provided to mental health consumers and family members
The OERP has implemented several
approaches to achieve these goals:
Crisis and Disaster Training Institute
Family Based
Mental Health
Training Center
Grief Training Institute
Mental Health Conference Planning
WPIC Staff
Development
