Dr. Jack Haggerty is Director of the Division of Social and Community Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.  He attended  medical school at the University of Maryland,  interned at the USPHS Hospital in San Francisco, and completed residency and community psychiatry fellowship training at UNC in 1979. He has also worked as a general medical officer in the Indian Health Service in Sells, AZ.  He has been UNC faculty since 1980. 

 

He joined AACP in 1991, and has served on the Board since 1998. He is a Fellow in the APA, and serves as a mentor  for  the APIRE early career psychiatrist fellowship.  He also serves as co-chair of the North Carolina Psychiatric Assn Committee for Public and Community Psychiatry. His special interests in community psychiatry  include training & manpower development, public-academic linkages, working with underserved populations, BPD in community settings,  and recently, community disaster response.  Within  AACP he been involved in developing the Community Psychiatry Training Network.
