Successful Winter Meeting Held in Charleston, South Carolina
Approximately 115 mental health professionals attended the day long conference co-sponsored by the AACP, the
South Carolina Department of Mental Health, as well as the
South Carolina Psychiatric Association in Charleston, SC, on January 29, 1993. Several AACP members arrived early to also participate in the International Conference on Organization of Services for People with Severe Mental Illness in the Community, sponsored by the École Libre des Hautes Études (otherwise known as the French University of New York). Although separate, the two conferences complemented each other and AACP members were able to “network” with guests from France, England and elsewhere (see article below). A reception was held Thursday evening and many participants stayed to enjoy the weekend in Charleston, which included a very well attended Board meeting on Saturday.
For the Friday conference, participants were able to choose to attend four of eight workshops, many of which were presented by AACP Board members. A total of 57 evaluation forms were turned in which rated the workshops on a scale of 1 to 5 (poor to excellent); the average rating for quality of workshops was 4.2 (“good plus”) (range 3.5-4.7). As listed in the final program, the workshops were:
- Treating the mentally ill substance abuser
