First Annual Moffic Ethics in Managed Care AwardThe first award was presented with great enthusiasm to Dr. Clif Tennison and the Helen Ross McNabb Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dr. Tennison and his agency demonstrated tremendous dedication and creativity in their struggle to save their mental health center and to preserve the quality of patient care in the face of dramatic cost cutting and program restrictions inflicted by the poorly conceived attempt of TennCare to bring managed care to Tennessee. In addition, Dr. Tennison has spoken out about the failure of the managed care implementation in Tennessee, which both hastened review of his state's mental healthcare system by the HCFA and has influenced other states to proceed more cautiously and thoughtfully in their own managed care implementation. Congratulations and Thank You to Dr. Tennison and the Helen Ross McNabb Center for their passion and dedication. Others recognized for ethical practice in the setting of managed care include: David Dangerfield, DSW, Salt Lake City, Utah; Ryan Fikenbine, MD, Charleston, South Carolina; Paulette Gillig, MD, Dayton, Ohio; and David Pollack, MD, Portland, Oregon. Again, congratulations and Thank You to each of these individuals.
