Dr. Everett currently serves as the Senior Medical Advisor to the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The projects she is currently working on include several aspects of the Implementation of the President’s Commission on Mental Health Services, Mental Health Disparities, Rural Mental Health, Prescription Medications, and Public Mental Health Care Financing. She is a Community Psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins University and prior to this practiced community psychiatry primarily in rural areas.  Dr. Everett served as the Inspector General to Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Mental Retardation Services in Virginia from 1999 to 2004. In this position she completed over 85 unannounced consultative inspections of the 15 Institutions operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dr. Everett is treasurer of the American Association of Community Psychiatrists and was an author of the recent AACP position paper on redesigning disability benefits for those with serious mental illness.  She is active within the American Psychiatric Association Assembly where she has worked to promote a greater emphasis within APA for the advocacy for persons with serious mental illness and for the needs of professionals and psychiatrists who serve them.  Dr. Everett is married and has two children, one dog, and one cat.
